Abstract: Based on 36818 foreign literatures and 16398 domestic literatures over last five years from the Web of Science and CNKI database, together with the Endnote (a literature analysis software), this paper summarizes and compares the characteristics of overall and frontier development in statistics between abroad and home in recent years, especially in 2012, from several aspects, including discipline division, the distribution of countries and authors, journals and papers. We also make a bibliometric analysis for mathematical statistics in 2012 regarding its publication journals, the distribution of keywords, research methods and hotspot. The results show that statistical research in China, though has a large room for growth in theoretical research compared with international ones, has its own characteristics especially in application and is developing continuously and steadily. The research orientation also tends to be more internationalized. Finally, five reflections for the development of statistics in our country are summarized.
