Abstract: Based on a large number of documents, this paper systematically combs the development history of statistics after the modern western statistical theories were introduced into China. From the introduction of western statistical theories to the localized development of statistics in China, from the dispute of “one” or “two” branches of statistics to the rise of “Big Statistics” as an idea, then to the establishment of statistics as a grade-1 discipline, from the establishment and development of statistical academic organizations in China to their role in promoting the development of statistics as a discipline, this paper makes a review of the above contents as objectively as possible, in the hope of helping readers have a basic understanding of modern development of statistics in China.
