Abstract: In this paper, the GTAP model is employed to simulate the effect of WTO accession by China on the world economy. The results show that if WTO accession leads to as much as trade liberalization as we have assumed in the simulation, it should bring a substantially welfare benefit to the world economy. The bulk of the benefit goes to the accession economies themselves, but many other economies also benefit.
