摘要:

本文从地位寻求角度分析了收入不平等对城镇家庭消费的影响。笔者认为,在金融市场欠发达和社会保障水平较低的经济环境中,收入差距拉大会迫使中、低收入家庭减少或相对减少非地位性消费,增加储蓄。基于CFPS微观跟踪调查数据的实证分析表明:(1)社会地位高的家庭的炫耀性消费对社会地位较低的家庭有显著的示范效应,且家庭的社会地位等级越高,攀比动机越强烈。(2)收入不平等显著降低了中、低地位等级的家庭的消费。(3)地位寻求拉动的主要是地位性消费,而收入差距扩大则主要抑制了非地位性消费。(4)收入差距扩大对消费的抑制作用与信贷约束有关。

Abstract:

The paper, based on social status seeking, makes an analysis of the impacts of income inequality upon urban family consumption. We think that, in the economic circumstance with less-developed financial market and low-level social security, the increase of income gap will force the families with middle or low income to reduce the non-positional consumption and increase the savings. An empirical study, based on the micro-tracking data of CFPS , has indicated that: 1) Such show-off consumption of the families with high social status may exert a substantial demonstration effect upon the families with middle and low social status. In addition, the higher the social status of the families, the stronger their comparative motives are. 2) Income inequality may greatly reduce consumption of the families with middle and low social status. 3) The status seeking may largely stimulate positional consumption, while the increase in income difference is more likely to restrain non-positional consumption. 4) The inhibit effect on consumption of income gap is related to credit constraints.
