Abstract: This paper explores the micro-level firm’s innovation behaviors and their effect factors based on the big sample observation of 1454 manufacturing firms in Zhejiang Province. On the one hand, the study performs the statistical analysis on the features, industry distribution and output performance of firm’s R&D inputs and finds out an inverse U-shape relationship between size of firm and R&D intensity, which is different from the definite tilting relationship by An Tongliang. On the other hand, the study implements econometric analysis and gets the following empirical conclusions: irstly, a significant inverse U-shape relationship is found between size of firm and innovative behaviors with an inflexion with firm’s size, when impact factors such as technical difference, property right structure, governmental support fund, brand, and technology intensive equipment are well controlled; Secondly, the intellectual property strategy will significantly promote innovation behaviors in enterprises; Thirdly, the role of foreign trade on innovation behaviors is insignificant and that of agglomeration is uncertain, while the requirement of standardization of technology in developed countries which constitutes the technical barriers evidently facilitates innovation behaviors.
