Abstract: Based on the World Value Survey data, this paper analyzes the gender happiness gap using regress and decompose method. The results indicate that Chinese female is happier than male. The reason of gender happiness gap is not from observed factor, such as age, health, education, employment, income and marriage, but from unobserved factors. This result is robustness for different year, different group, and different database. The further research finds that “Pressure” plays an important role in the creation of gender happiness gap. The lower happiness of Chinese male is caused by the high expectation for them. The deeper reason is the discrimination for Chinese female people. In Chinese society, male people have higher education, more job opportunity and higher income than female people, but have lower happiness. This kind of situation deserves deep thought.
