Abstract: Why do there have big differences in industrial structure across different countries, regions and periods? Based on the measurement of geographic agglomeration of labor, human capital and resources, we use the panel data of 31 provinces from 2003 to 2012 to empirically analyze the effects of geographic agglomeration on industrial structure change. We find that geographic agglomeration of labor and human capital have positive effects on industrial structure change and geographic agglomeration of resources have negative effects on industrial structure change. The effects of geographic agglomeration of human capital and resources are descending order in eastern, central and western China. Self-dependent innovations have positive effects on the rationalization of industrial structure but have negative effects on the optimization shock of industrial structure. Government intervention have positive effects on the optimization shock of industrial structure but have negative effects on the rationalization of industrial structure.
