Abstract: This paper, against the backdrop of big data, offers a theoretical discussion of the problem of statistical measurement. Based on relative literature, it first probes the definition and categorization of statistical measurement; it then argues from three perspectives that statistical measurement lays foundation for not only statistics but also data science; finally, it presents outlooks on how to improve and innovate methods of statistical measurement.
