摘要: 本文首次基于地位寻求理论和中国实际,在跨期效用最大化假设下导出了人情支出模型,并利用微观数据对中国城镇家庭的人情支出行为以及人情支出与消费的关系进行了实证分析。结果表明:(1)中国城镇家庭在人情支出上存在显著的地位寻求特征。(2)人情支出对消费既有促进效应又有挤出效应,且后者明显大于前者。

Abstract: Based on the theory of status seeking and the reality of China, it derives a gift spending model under the assumption of inter-temporal utility maximization, and conducts an empirical study with micro data to investigate urban households’ gift spending behavior and the relationship between gift expenditure and consumption. The results show that, firstly, there exists a significant status seeking characteristics in the gift spending behavior of China’s urban households. Secondly, gift spending plays both facilitating and crowding out role in urban households’ consumption, and the latter is more obvious than the former.
