Abstract: Based on the background of statistics becoming first-tier discipline, the paper analyses the opportunities and challenges of socio-economic statistics, elaborates on four basic points for the further development of socio-economic statistics: to follow the history track, to deepen and expand the perceptions about socio-economic phenomena, to strengthen both law research and method research and to concentrate on the current socio-economic issues in China. Then some constructive suggestions are put forward to build a platform for strengthening the cooperation and academic activity.
