Abstract: Shanghai has gradually integrated into the world trading system since being opened as a trading port，which provided good system and environmental conditions for the development of entrepot trade. Along with the further opening up of China's coastal areas and Yangtze River areas in the 1860s，the entrepot trade of Shanghai flourished after experiencing the ups and downs at the beginning of the port opening. Although intercity and international competition weakened the dominant position of Shanghai in entrepot trade during the period of Republic of China, the adjustment of re-exporting goods structure made entrepot trade of Shanghai boom until the Pacific war broke out, which brought about and consolidated the role of Shanghai as economic center.
