Abstract: Based on the multi-regional Input-Output Table of China in 1997 and 2007, this paper gives a deep insight of the Changing Characters of the spatial linkage of China regional economies. From the viewpoint of both direct and indirect linkage, the number of regions with lower forward and backward linkages is decreasing, while the number of regions with higher forward and backward linkages is increasing. More specific, all the regions, except the east and south coastal, are showing an upward trend for the direct and indirect backward linkage. Meanwhile, all the regions, not including the north and east coastal and the central, are also experiencing the upward trend for the direct and indirect linkage. This paper also shows that, because both the input and product market are abroad, the forward and backward effects of the east and south coastal to the other regions are weakening, especially for the backward effect.
