Abstract: There were four major arguments in the development of statistics. We focus on these arguments to show the ideas and methods in the developing course of statistics. The arguments between apolitical arithmetic and potential state school clear the disciplinary nature of statistics. The arguments between descriptive statistics and inferencial statistics lead the establishment of a complete system of statistics.The arguments between classical statistics and bayesian statistics bring a new statistics philosophy. The arguments among classical statistics, bayesian statistics and information statistics promote the research on problems of inferencial statistics.Through the debate between different schools,we have greatly improved thought and Methodology of statistics.
