Abstract: First, a summary was made on the formation and characteristics of traditional system of rural statistics, the preparation and implementation of agricultural census in our country; then, combined with the results of the census, description was given on the shortcomings existed in the system of rural statistics and the reform made, and the orientation of further reform was directed; and finally, the advantages and disadvantages of various
survey methods were discussed in order to improve the statistics in China.
