Abstract: The fourth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee incorporated statistical supervision into the national supervision system. With socialism with Chinese characteristics entering a new era and the rapid development and application of big data and artificial intelligence technology, the internal and external environment of statistical supervision has undergone profound changes. How to further play its role in the new environment has become a very important issue. This paper systematically sorts out various discussions on statistical supervision and rethinks its connotation, then reviews the development and practice of statistical supervision in China since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, compares it with foreign practice, and finally puts forward some suggestions for further exerting the function of statistical supervision in the new era.
