Abstract: This paper constructs and evaluates a high-quality economic development evaluation indicator system, and uses static, dynamic and spatial panel data models to empirically test the effect of environmental decentralization on high-quality economic development. The study finds that the impact of environmental decentralization on high-quality economic development presents a " U-shaped" feature, and that the current environmental decentralization in China still has a negative effect on high-quality economic development. After using instrumental variables to deal with endogenous issues and a series of robustness tests, the conclusions are still true. Transmission channel analysis shows that environmental decentralization affects high-quality economic development through resource misallocation, and the impact of environmental decentralization on high-quality development also has regional and structural heterogeneity. Conclusions of this paper help to clarify the impact of environmental decentralization on high-quality economic development, and provide important policy guidance andreference for adjusting and optimizing the environmental decentralization system.
